Meet the Need began in 2020 as a response to the surge in food insecurity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as an emergency response effort has evolved into an ongoing program that connects Florida farmers with families in need, ensuring that fresh, nutritious food reaches those who need it most.
At the heart of the program is a commitment to reducing food waste while strengthening the local food system. Meet the Need works by gathering surplus produce and redistributing it as fresh groceries and preparable meal kits. By partnering with schools, food pantries, healthcare providers, and community organizations, the program delivers high-quality, locally grown food directly to students, families, and individuals facing food insecurity.
Beyond distribution, Meet the Need plays a vital role in building a more resilient and sustainable food system. By prioritizing sourcing from farms that practice responsible agricultural practices, the program not only supports those in need but also strenghthens Florida’s farming communities. Each meal represents a step toward a future where everyone has access to fresh, nourishing food.
