November 2020

Friends,

I am grateful every day, but November for me is a special time for gratitude. It’s nice to head into winter, even in Florida, with a garden of gratitude to harvest when the weather is chillier and the sun sets a little earlier. This year, mine is full of thanks to the community for the support we’ve received since announcing plans for the 4Roots Farm Campus, last year. Since then we’ve accomplished so much together, and this month we’ll see the continuation of our Feed the Need Florida initiative and the opening of the 4Roots Cafe at the Orlando Science Center. With Thanksgiving and Giving Tuesday around the corner, I can’t think of a better time to come together as individuals and organizations to build a healthier community.
Here’s to a month of finding comfort in gratitude, helping those in need, and enjoying full hearts and stomachs.

First Look: New 4Roots Farm Campus Renderings

From seeds to harvest, the best way to grow is through community. Recently, at 4Roots’ annual Friends of the Farm Gathering, founder and CEO, John Rivers, revealed new visuals for the farm campus, while discussing the power of community and how we can build a better food future…together!

4Roots Cafe Opening this Month at Orlando Science Center

Last month we shared exciting details around a new collaboration with the Orlando Science Center. The first step is upon us, as the 4Roots Cafe is opening this month! Watch for more details soon on an immersive, living exhibit featuring our local “food heroes” to open at the Cafe, complementing this fresh and innovative dining experience.
Recently, the Orlando Science Center also welcomed, Pompeii: The Immortal City, a remarkable new exhibit that can only be seen at two other sites in the United States. Through artifacts, artwork, interactive mechanical devices and multimedia experiences, visitors will embark on a journey into the heart of the drama and ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii—the perfect pairing to a delicious, homegrown meal at the 4Roots Cafe.

Working Together to Build a Better Tomorrow with Truist

Providing access to healthy foods for the communities that need it the most, is one of the many ways Truist Bank and 4Roots are working together to build a better food future. Led by Sandy Hostetter — Central Florida Regional President for Truist Bank, Orlando Business Journal’s 2020 Woman of the Year, and 4Roots Farm Campus Board Member — their commitment to community has directly helped Feed the Need Florida distribute over 20,000 meals this year. We are grateful for their continued support as we work to strengthen our local food system in the heart of Orlando!

Innovative Local Food Solutions

Our new shipping container farm has found a new home and look at the 4Roots Co-Op in The Packing District. This innovative approach to vertical, hydroponic farming will promote efficient and sustainable production with state of the art technology not previously seen in Central Florida. Get a taste of this delicious innovation by visiting the new 4Roots Cafe, which will use produce grown in the farming containers.

Grow Here, Give Back on Giving Tuesday

4Roots is working to create a critical connection between homegrown food, the land it’s grown on and the community it serves. This mission cannot be accomplished without the collaborative efforts of Central Florida’s residents, leaders and organizations. This Giving Tuesday, December 1, we are asking for you to become a friend of the farm and help us plant the seeds for a healthier community.

A Florida Fresh Recipe to Fall For

With cooler weather here to stay, it’s time to welcome a new season of flavor with snap beans. Did you know this Florida-favorite’s harvest starts in November? Keep fresh ideas (and produce) flowing in your kitchen by adding this versatile crop to your grocery list.
