4Roots Field Trips

Explore Urban Agriculture at the 4Roots Farm Campus

4Roots Field Trips engage students in hands-on educational experiences that help to deepen their connection to food and agriculture.

Field Trips at 4Roots Farm are designed to bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) concepts to life, with a focus on regenerative agriculture, sustainability, health and wellness, and culinary arts. Each field trip program includes an interactive tour of the 4Roots Farm Campus and experiential lessons and activities that are thoughtfully structured with relevant, age-appropriate Florida State Standards in mind. Example topics include: food systems, soil health, plant and animal science, permaculture, food waste and composting, hydroponics and aquaponics, renewable energy, farm-to-table nutrition, and more.

Field trips can be tailored to fit the interests, needs, and schedules of individual groups. Hoping to give your students a fun, educational, out-of-school opportunity to complement in-class learning? The 4Roots Farm Campus is a space where students can apply knowledge gained in the classroom in a unique, organic environment. Looking for a project-based learning experience for your students or youth group? We can work with you to schedule multiple visits, creating a customized experience where each visit builds on the last.

4Roots Farm Campus field trip requests are now open for visits beginning in March 2024.

FAQ

How do I book a field trip?

Please complete the field trip request form on our website. Our team will be in contact shortly after receiving your request to confirm that your date/time is available. We’ll also provide instructions on how to pay your deposit, a liability waiver, and additional information on preparing for your visit. Upon receiving your $50 deposit, we will send you a confirmation email with an invoice that reflects your remaining balance, which is due on the day of your visit.

Are field trip activities taught the same way to all groups?

Nope! While we focus our education around themes of regenerative agriculture, sustainability, health and wellness, and culinary arts, field trip content and activities are modified within these themes to suit the age and experience level of the groups we teach. Our lesson plans are built around Florida State Standards to help teachers fulfill their academic goals while providing a fun and engaging out-of-class experience for students.

Can you accommodate special requests for field trip topics and activities?

Please let us know if you have a specific request when booking, and we will do our best to customize your field trip experience to your interests or needs.

Can we have lunch on the farm?

Of course! If you want to enjoy a picnic lunch on the farm, we offer a 30-minute lunch add-on. Feel free to bring your lunch along with you but please note that refrigerator space is not available at the farm. If bringing your own lunch, a $1 per person fee will be charged to help cover staff time and costs of sanitation and trash disposal. You may also purchase bagged lunches from 4Roots Café for an additional fee. 4Roots Café orders must be placed at least two weeks in advance. You can find the field trip menu here.

How can we prepare for our visit?

Students, teachers, and chaperones should plan to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes to be outside. Please wear closed-toe shoes. Don’t forget to bring sun protection, hats, a refillable water bottle, snacks/lunch, and any medication you may need if anyone has allergies to bees, plants, animals, etc.
