Meet the Need

Program Overview

Meet the Need Florida launched in 2020 as a response to increased food insecurity caused by the COVID-19 Global Pandemic and continues to respond to the dynamic food needs of our community. This program gathers excess produce from Florida farmers to distribute fresh groceries and prepared meals to students and families in need. Since its inception, Meet the Need has served over 1.8 million meals and “rescued” over 790,00 pounds of Florida-grown produce.

Volunteers are an important part of the 4Roots family and key to the success of our mission.

We need volunteers to help us from seed to feed:

  • Seeding
  • Packaging fresh produce from local farmers
  • Distributing fresh locally grown produce to the community
  • Gleaning
  • Composting
  • Building box gardens
  • Gardening

Your time can make a big difference. Also, with the impact of Hurricane Ian there are many community needs that we are supporting and any donation to Feed the Need can make an impact.
