This summer, we had the joy of teaming up with the Orlando Science Center (OSC) to bring kids an unforgettable week of learning, farming, and cooking at the 4Roots Farm Campus — and it was a huge success!
For weeks, campers entering grades 3–5 filled the farm with curiosity, laughter, and muddy hands as they explored regenerative agriculture, conservation, and technology. Together with OSC, we created an immersive experience that blended STEM education with real-world lessons about where food comes from and why it matters.
Campers enjoyed guided farm tours through our permaculture food forest, hands-on learning with hydroponics, aquaponics, and greenhouse growing systems, and farm-to-table lessons that took them from seed to harvest. The highlight for many? Culinary workshops with our 4Roots Culinary Health Institute, where they prepared smoothies, energy bites, and tofu lettuce wraps — then proudly shared their creations with new friends.
Inside the 4Roots Education Center, campers got a first-hand look at what will soon be Florida’s first Living Building Challenge-certified facility, learning about renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, and sustainable design in action.
“There is so much science behind food,” said Emily Duguid, OSC’s Vice President of Education. “Here, kids got to see how technology is shaping the future of farming while learning skills they can take home to their families.”
“When kids understand where their food comes from, it inspires them to make healthier choices — and share that knowledge with their families,” added Brianna Rodarmel, 4Roots Director of Programs.
We are so grateful to the Orlando Science Center for their partnership and to the campers and families who made this program such a success. Watching kids light up as they harvested their first vegetables, tasted farm-fresh snacks, and explored the science behind farming reminded us why this work matters — because these are the changemakers of tomorrow.
If you missed this year’s camps, stay tuned! We can’t wait to welcome the next class of curious, creative campers next summer for even more discovery, cooking, and fun on the farm.
